Environment Report for Gunbower National Park and Guttrum and Benwell forests to be exhibited soon

The Environment Report for the Gunbower National Park and Guttrum and Benwell forests floodplain restoration projects is expected to be placed on public exhibition in April 2026.

Public exhibition is an important stage in the approvals process, when assessment documentation is made publicly available and community members, organisations and stakeholders can review the material and make formal submissions.

The Environment Report assesses the potential environmental effects of the projects and how these could be avoided, minimised or managed. The projects aim to help restore important Murray River floodplain forests by returning a more natural watering pattern to these ecosystems.

The exhibition documentation will include the full Environment Report, supporting technical studies and the draft Planning Scheme Amendment associated with the projects.

During the exhibition period, community members will be able to:

  • access the Environment Report and supporting technical documentation

  • read summary information and fact sheets about the projects

  • learn more about the proposed infrastructure and environmental outcomes

  • make a formal submission as part of the approvals process.

Gunbower National Park and the Guttrum and Benwell forests are significant floodplain ecosystems along the Murray River that support important environmental, cultural and recreational values.

The exhibition period is expected to commence in April 2026.

Further information, including exhibition dates, submission details and links to the Environment Report documentation, will be published here on the VMFRP website and project portal once available.
